Project Description

RTC & LVV, Sheffield

Main Contractor: Finnegans
Architect: Bond Bryan
Scope: Structurally Bolted / Bonded Assemblies

CASU were approached by Bond Bryan, in partnership with Saint-Gobain to assist in the conceptualisation and specification of this land mark scheme that features cutting edge product selection and design engineering.

This project is an extreme example of CASU Design capabilities and of ‘pushing the envelope’.

The design utilises a frameless glazing system that does away with all bolts. The vertical face glass is bonded with a structural silicone to vertical glass fins and captured at the periphery in a channel.

The unit sizes are 2.1m wide and 7.8m tall, which makes them the largest application of this style of glazing in the UK.

An enormous amount of preparatory design and engineering works went into making this a reality and CASU worked closely with our Supply Chain and engineer to achieve a workable design.

Manufacturing was an intense process, due to the 17 week lead in time required for replacements. On site, the units had to be lifted and turned from landscape to portrait, then carefully craned into position with less than 10mm clearance at the head underneath the soffit.

CASU are exceptionally proud of this scheme and the results that were achieved on site.
